Prune Nourry back in Gansu

From March 12 to 14, Prune Nourry was once again with us in the field to meet up with the eight little girls who modelled for her “Terracotta Daughters” project.

She used this opportunity to show the girls the project’s making-of video and most importantly, give each of them their own statue.

Field trip – Chunjie 2015

Just before Chinese New Year, we visited the families of all the children we support, in both Gansu and Shaanxi, to bring them their quarterly allowance and the traditional seasonal gifts : rice, oil, sweets, and a hongbao! It is a great opportunity for us to spend more time with the families, share a bowl of noodles with them on the kang and get to know them better!

10 years’ worth of Christmas Apples !

This year, we are celebrating ten years of you helping the organization by eating apples in Beijing and Shanghai !!

They are already available in Shanghai and will arrive in Beijing on 21st November, in most schools and compounds.

To order some apples, contact your local Madaifu team right away and they will let you know where to get them.

The proceeds of this year’s anniversary event will not only help the organization continue its work with the 150 children it supports and Gansu and Shaanxi, but also contribute to better equip its new Bookmobile which has been touring the countryside since the Spring, allowing children to discover and trade literary classics, both Chinese and Western.

The Terracotta Daughters are unstoppable!

After travelling the world from Shanghai to Paris via Zurich then crossing the Atlantic to be exposed in New York, the Terracotta Daughters Army will end its tour in Mexico City at The Museo Diego Rivera-Anahuacalli.

From October 30th to November 30th this will be your last chance to discover the project of artist Prune Nourry before the sculptures head back to Shanghai for being buried for the next 20 years.

To discover her work, visit her website: http://www.prunenourry.com/en

We would like to thank her again for her work, which will fund the allowance and tuition fees of the eight little girls who inspired her.

Phèdre / Jean Racine – The Lantern Theatre (May 23,24,25 and 26)

Since 2006, the Lantern Theatre puts on a play in Beijing each spring, the proceeds of which are wholly donated to Children of Madaifu. This year the theatre troup, made up of French-speaking aspiring thespians and led expertly by director Isy Chautemps since 2009, revisits the remarkable and intense dramatic tragedy Phèdre by Racine on May 23,24,25 and 26. Chinese subtitles make it possible for Chinese audiences to appreciate our repertoire.

International Women’s Day Party – Viva International

A big thank you to Viva International who, last 8th March, organised an event focusing on the famous women throughout history. The proceeds from the raffle, 8000 RMB, were entirely donated to the association. During an evening where Agatha Christie stood alongside Indira Gandhi and Pippi Longstocking, we shared an indian dinner in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Charity Fundraiser Book Sale 2013: a great success!

The now famous and popular annual Charity Fundraiser Book Sale took place at the Pudong campus, organized by the parent association (BDA) in collaboration with the charity association Les Enfants de Madaifu.

Thanks to the generosity of the school community, as well as many other outside donors, about 2000 books had been collected, in various languages (French, English, Chinese but also German, Spanish, etc!)

On the day of the charity book sale, Saturday 16th of March 2013, a lot of children and adults were happily shopping for books, going home with piles of new readings.

100% of the funds raised from the book sale has been given by the BDA to the charity organization Les Enfants de Madaifu, that is, a 16 325 RMB donation.

Les Enfants de Madaifu would like to thank warmly the BDA for his support and his incredible involvement all along this event.

Thank you again to everyone who participated, donating and/or buying books – you made this fundraiser a success!

Shanghai – Book Sale 2013

The Children of Madaifu association, together with the French School parent association (BDA) in Pudong Campus, organizes a Charity Fundraiser Book Sale.

Anyone can participate; you are welcome to donate books for all ages, in any language (English, Chinese, French, German, Italian…).

Please contact us (madaifushanghai@gmail.com) if you wish to donate books. If needed, we can send someone to pick up the books.

Then we will hold a book sale, where everyone is invited to come and shop for used books.  It is a great way to find interesting books for the whole family at very reasonable prices. All profits go to the Children of Madaifu association.

The book sale will be organized on Saturday 16th of March from 10am to 3pm at the French school Pudong campus. (see details Book Fair 2013)
