Zhang Zhenghai, one of Children of Madaidu’s first supportees, received first place in the baguette and special breads category in the Lesaffre Cup Bakery Competition and will be traveling to Jakarta, Indonesia to compete in the Asia-wide competition in November 2015. Both us and Shanghai Young Bakers, who trained him and where he now teaches, were deligthed by this result!
In March and April 2015, photographer Gilles Sabrié came back to the area where we work to shoot a series on the place the kang (a brick bed heated from underneath) has in Northern Chinese houses. You can discover his work at: www.gsabrie.com
From March 12 to 14, Prune Nourry was once again with us in the field to meet up with the eight little girls who modelled for her “Terracotta Daughters” project. She used this opportunity to show the girls the project’s making-of video and most importantly, give each of them their own statue.
Just before Chinese New Year, we visited the families of all the children we support, in both Gansu and Shaanxi, to bring them their quarterly allowance and the traditional seasonal gifts : rice,oil, sweets, and a hongbao! It is a great opportunity for us to spend more time with the families, share a bowl of noodles with them on the kang and get to know them better!

A big thank you to Viva International who, last 8th March, organised an event focusing on the famous women throughout history.
